September 2025 Webmasters Forum: Understanding the U’s Brand Updates

The University of Utah recently introduced a refreshed institutional logo and expanded brand standards to strengthen national recognition and better align health, academics, and athletics under one unified identity.

At this month’s Webmasters Forum, Scott Troxel, Director of Digital Strategy for University Marketing & Communications, will walk us through the changes and what they mean for campus websites and digital communications.

In this session, we’ll cover:

  • The difference between the new interlocking U and the Block U, and when to use each.
  • Updates to the brand guide, including the new primary color Zion Cinder Cone, expanded secondary palette, and typeface changes.
  • What is changing (and not changing) for college, department, and unit logos.
  • How digital assets like websites and signage are being updated.
  • How these updates support Strategy 2030 and the U’s broader reputation goals.

Whether you’re responsible for a college homepage or a small program site, this session will help you understand how to apply the updated brand consistently across digital channels.
