1. Beware of Banner Blindness

• Studies now show that viewers tend to quickly scroll past the marquee/banner, so avoid adding important information in this area. Instead, consider the use of a quality static image, one that is relevant to your site. This is also a great area to incorporate faces, which will add that human element to your site.

2. It's OK to Scroll

• Unlike news and print media, the term "above the fold" does not apply to websites. People are more likely to scroll on websites if they are continuously provided with relevant information.

3. Don't Fear White Space

• Avoid packing your site full of content. Instead, allow your content to "breathe" between sections by utilizing white space.

4. Incorporate Color

• Adding bits of color to your site can help break up your content.
• When using color, make sure to use the contrast checker to verify accessibility.

5. Show, Don't Tell

• Rather than using lengthy paragraphs to explain something, consider short sentences, the use of bullet points or imagery.

• Review your layout on different browsers, as well as different devices.

8. Provide a Clear Call to Action

• When asking your viewer do something (i.e. opening a new link, filling out an application, etc.), make sure that action is clear. Hyperlinked text and buttons are some great options. 

9. Continually Update/Revise

• Content should be monitored and updated regularly. Depending on the amount of content that needs to be changed out, this may require a layout redesign.
