Domain Names

 

A domain name is the name of a website, for example, healthcare.utah.edu or socialwork.utah.edu. UIT provides the domain name service (DNS) for all utah.edu domains. DNS translates easily memorized domain names into the numerical IP addresses needed to connect to services and systems on the internet.

Select the group that administers your website to learn specifics about your management platform.

  • If you see a “LAST UPDATED” link in the dark gray footer of your site, it’s administered by UIT.
  • No "LAST UPDATED" link? It might be a UMC site.

UIT will coordinate the request of a domain name in conjunction with the request to set up a new website.

UMC will work with you to select your domain name and facilitate the Service Now request and coordination with UIT.

U of U Health - Acquia

  • Third level domain names are only granted for unique audiences, schools or colleges.
  • We also have a few domains specifically for shortened branded urls for advertising and measuring effectiveness of printed campaigns , these domains serve only as vanities and redirect to the actual url.
    • For example uofuhealth.org is a vanity url and can be setup so that uofuhealth.org/whatever redirects to a designated url.
  • Contact the HSC Webmster for  a vanity redirect or a new third level domain for a unique audience.
